Vice Mayor Pacquiao to have purse suspended

This is an outrage. Due to the legal battle over Pacquiao by Top Rank and Golden Boy promotion companies, and now with Don King snubbing his nose in the mix
MIAMI (AFP) - Boxing promoter Don King denied reports that he has been trying to make a deal to represent Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao, saying that claims of huge money pitches and repeated calls are false.
Reports had Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, saying in the Philippines that King had called 10 days in a row and offered a rich deal.
But Pacquiao is at the center of a legal fight between rival promoters Top Rank and Golden Boy, each claiming they have rights to the Asian star.
King was clear that he is not trying to add to the legal entanglement.
“I have not called nor have I spoken with Manny Pacquiao, his trainer or anyone in his camp,” King said. “I have no idea where these reports have emanated from but I can assure everyone the media accounts are absolutely false.”

The World Boxing Commision (WBC) announced that they will revoke the purse for the Pacquiao - Barrera fight comming up due to the legal battle.
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Boxer-promoter Oscar de la Hoya is suing Bob Arum, claiming the rival promotor lured Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao away from de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions firm.
De la Hoya and his Los Angeles-based company filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Arum and Top Rank Inc. of Las Vegas.
The move came just days after Pacquiao destroyed Erik Morales in three rounds to claim supremacy in their three-fight super featherweight rivalry.
De La Hoya is asking for unspecified damages and a court order preventing Arum for doing further promotion work for Pacquiao until the latter has fulfilled his obligations under a purported contract with Golden Boy Promotions.
“This case is but the latest example of the bitter and vindictive campaign being waged by Top Rank Inc. against Golden Boy Promotions,” the lawsuit states.
Top Rank’s offices were said to be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday and could not immediately be reached for comment.
The lawsuit charges that Arum’s company, unable to accept that De La Hoya is no longer fighting for Top Rank, and is now running his own promotion company, has “consistently sought to bad-mouth Golden Boy and De La Hoya and has tried every trick in its book, lawful and unlawful, to slow down Golden Boy’s growth and success.”
According to the lawsuit, Pacquiao had made a deal with Golden Boy Promotions in September to co-promote his next seven fights after the latest Morales bout.
Last Friday, Golden Boy officials received a letter from Pacquiao’s lawyer repudiating that deal, and after the Pacquiao-Morales fight, Arum announced that Top Rank and Pacquiao had reached a four-year agreement with Pacquiao to co-promote his bouts.
The lawsuit also alleges that Arum and Top Rank have tried to induce Marco Antonio Barrera, the World Boxing Council super featherweight world champion, to breach a deal with Golden Boy in favor of Top Rank.

Now as far as I am concerned this is ridiculous as not only does it affect Pacquiao, but Barrera too.
The World Boxing Council has suspended the purse bid for the mandatory title shot of Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao against reigning WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera. The purse bid was scheduled for January 12 should
negotiations between the two fighters handlers not succeed. In an email to Viva Sports/Manila Standard today, WBC president Jose Sulaiman said that “due to the current legal situation” the purse offer was suspended. Golden Boy Promotions who signed Pacquiao to a seven fight contract in mid-September filed a case in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Bob Arum’s Top Rank of “tortuous interference” after Arum announced last November 18 that he had inked a four year promotional deal with Pacquiao.
For his part Arum sought “declaratory judgment” in a Las Vegas court which effectively asked the court to decide on which contract is valid.
Meantime Pacquiao, in an interview on ABS-CBN NEWS claimed he had informed the WBC he was ready to fight Barrera in April next year.
Even as the WBC announced the suspension of the purse offer, promoter Don King has vehemently denied claims by Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach that King had called several times offering big money to promote the exciting Filipino fighter considered by many as the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world today.
King said the news stories which were given extensive coverage were “absolutely false in their entirety and have no merit whatsoever.” King insisted he never called or spoke to Pacquiao or anyone in his camp.

Whats worse is that Manny “Packman” Pacquiao is a legend a rolemodel and maybe even Vice Mayor of Manila, Philippines
HOW about a boxing mayor?
WBC Super Featherweight International champ Manny Pacquiao said he is not vying for the mayoral post in General Santos.
Out of respect to Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., a close family friend of “Pacman”, he would not join in the political fray in General Santos City.
“Mayor Acharon has one more term. I have great respect for him. In the meantime, I would be running in Kiamba (Sarangani Province),” Pacquiao said in jest.
But when reporters pressed him to confirm his intention to run as mayor of Kiamba town, he said, “I am not yet declaring.”
Kiamba is the hometown of Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee.
Pacquiao’s close aide, who asked not to be named, confirmed that last April the Filipino ring idol went to Kiamba municipal election office to register as a voter.
The Gensan boxing sensation had also purchased a property in the said town, some 90-kilometers away from this city.
Political observers here said Pacquiao could be a formidable opponent with his money, popularity, and charisma.
The same source said it was incumbent Mayor Danny Martinez of Kiamba who convinced Pacquiao to run for mayor in Kiamba.
The source further revealed that Martinez, a last termer, would be Pacquiao’s running mate.

Oh but wait there is even more.
Manila vice mayor?
But if politics was on his mind, the No. 1 endorser of San Miguel Corp. products wasn’t talking about it.
He declined to comment on speculations he would run for vice mayor of Manila.
Pacquiao said he had no plans of relocating from General Santos to Manila. He said his registering to vote in Manila’s sixth district did not necessarily mean he was leaving his birthplace.
“I will remain a resident of this city. I was born here and my family lives here,” he said.

On July 5 Pacquiao registered as voter and resident of Manila before the Commission on Elections, fueling speculation that he planned to run for the second highest position in the city.
In an interview Sunday night upon arrival from a trip to China, Atienza said he had not discussed the possibility with the boxer. He said, however, that Pacquiao could do a lot to help develop the city.
Atienza said Pacquiao is intelligent, loyal and thoughtful. Most important, Pacquiao understands that development is essential to progress.
The mayor noted that Pacquiao had spent most of his early years as a boxer in Manila, training in Sampaloc. He has personally witnessed the transformation of the city from want to prosperity.
